As part of this year’s Cúirt Festival, a very special literary supper will take place in Kai, Café and Restaurant, Galway on Tuesday 21 April. The Georgina Campbell Restaurant of the Year will combine their talents with Cúirt to produce a one off-night of literary magic featuring seven courses of food inspired by poems and books chosen by Cúirt Director Dani Gill.
The evening will be centred around readings from Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Oysters by Seamus Heaney, To kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Crab by Sharon Olds, Walter Macken Dish and A Jane Austen Picnic type dessert. The Kai literary menu will be seafood inspired and poems will be recited throughout the evening.
Along with a culinary feast there will be visual elements both inside and outside the restaurant. The supper will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are €75 and are available from www.cuirt.ie.

Why Galway? A panel discussion with leading food leaders
Join some of Galway leading foodies for a panel discussion on Saturday 4 April at 4pm in Loam Restaurant on Fairgreen Road. The afternoon will focus on four women who work with, educate or write about food and how all their journeys have led them back to Galway.
The panel will include Journalist and Food Guild writer Barbara Collins, Michelle Crehan of The Kitchen at the Museum, Head of the Department of Hotel & Tourism Management at GMIT Cait Noone and Gill Carroll Business woman and creator and owner of 37 west.
A native of Co Armagh but now living in Tuam with her husband and two children, Barbara Collins has worked in BBC News and Current Affairs Radio and Television since 1999 when she joined as a graduate trainee. Her passion for people and their stories is matched by her appetite for good food.
After coming to chefing late in life Michelle Crehan, with a background in journalism, a spell teaching English in Japan and a brief period as a private investigator, Michelle started The Kitchen at The Museum in 2010. Located to the rear of the Spanish Arch, The Kitchen is Mediterranean in style, but uses all local ingredients and caters for both vegetarians and carnivores, while offering beautiful sweet treats , juices, speciality teas and coffee.
With 18 years experience in higher education overseas, Cáit Noone joined GMIT in 2007 as Head of the Department of Hotel & Tourism Management and became Head of the Hotel School in 2008. She was Dean of the first International Hotel Management School in China – Les Roches Jin Jiang International, and worked for Les Roches School of Hotel Management in Switzerland, a leading international Swiss hotel school.
37 west in Newcastle has established itself as the place to eat for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just to grab a coffee and a tasty healthy treat. The brainchild of business woman Gill Carroll, 37 west was born out a vision and dream of a woman who had worked in hospitability and retail for over 10 years but wanted to forge her own path and express her personality through healthy food.
Hosted by Jess Murphy of Irelands Best Restaurant 2015 Kai Cafe + Restaurant on Sea Road where the philosophy is very simple, head chef Jessica sources fresh, organic produce from local suppliers to create daily menus bursting with flavour, texture and colour. If you’re lucky you might even get an edible flower on your plate.

The tours will be led by Sheena Dignam from Kai Café and Restaurant who will lead the food enthusiasts around Galway’s finest food destinations. Sheena will guide you along the streets of Galway where you will meet artisan producers and sample their products.
The Saturday and Sunday tours will include an unforgettable trip to the now famous Galway Market and all days will include visits to award winning restaurants and cafes.
The food tours will run on Thursday 2 , Friday 3 April at 12 noon, the Saturday 4 tour will run at 11:30am and 3pm while the Sunday 5 and Monday 6 tours will run at 12 noon. The Thursday and Friday tours are €26 and the weekend and Monday tours are €30. There is a maximum of 15 people per tour so booking is essential. Tickets are available from Sheena on 086-7332885.

This weekend over 10,00 baking enthusiasts are expected to visit the first ever Bake Fest Galway in Leisureland, and we’re incredibly excited!
Expect a weekend of sweet baked goodness, Ireland’s biggest baking competition, demos from some of Ireland best loved chefs, and of course we could not resist but get involved too!
The great thing about this event is not just the thought of a weekend surrounded by baked treats, but it’s also in the name of a very good cause. And before you ask, your sweet tooth is not a good enough cause! Bake Fest is being run in association with ACT for Meningitis, with all funds raised going towards the charity.
The event will run on Saturday and Sunday from 11am and is free to everyone, so make sure you bring the kids down!
Kai is sponsoring the gingerbread person decorating event(we’re so PC!) so make sure to pay us a visit and decorate your person!
Bake Fest is about a few different things, it’s about raising money for a very worthy cause, it’s about helping to preserve old traditions, but also to showcase the wealth of talent we have in both novice and professional bakers.
If you think you’ve got a winning Royal Iced Cake, or the best novelty cakes make sure to enter the Bake Fest competition, there are enough child, beginner and novice categories to make it worth your entering, and it’s not too late!
If you’re into celebrity chefs the guys have that box ticked for you too! The double Michelin chef whom Jess spent many years working with will be taking part in a demo along with BBC2’s Patrick Ryan, food columnist Lily Higgins, and TV3’s Edward Hayden.
The event is close to Kevin Thorntons heart as he will speak at the event about how his own son recovered after being diagnosed with Meningitis.
There will be also be demonstrations from celebrity chefs on everything from baking bread and cakes to making cookie monsters for the kids.
