The award winning Kai Cafe and Restaurant on Sea Road are joining forces with Galway Food Tours for 2017. The Kai Cookbook club which runs over 4 months beginning in January- lets diners experience some of head Chef Jess’s favourite cook books. Each cook book club will focus on the recipes from one book cooked Kai style.
The featured cookbooks are beginning with Polska- New Polish Cooking by Zuza Zak on January 31st, followed by The Palomar Cookbook- Mitchell Beasley on February 28th, on March 28th it’s Simple effortless food, big flavours- Diana Henry and to finish on April 25th Gjelina- Travis Lett.
“The cookbook club allows diners to taste and experience dishes and flavours from some of the best known cook books in the world. It is like stepping inside that book for one night only. We love doing them as we can also immerse and become a little obsessed with the cookbook for that entire month,” explained Jess.
Galway Food Tours the culinary walking tour of Galway ran by Sheena Dignam brings people to try produce from oysters to cheese; Sushi to Crab and Doughnuts to Strawberry tarts. Explore your love for food with this gastronomic tour of Galway’s culinary hotspots.
Galway’s famous food culture is explored over a morning and takes in some of the city’s best known and secret food haunts with Sheena taking you on a food journey that is simply delish!
Sheena will lead food enthusiasts around Galway’s finest food destinations. The tours will include an unforgettable trip to the now famous Galway Market and visits to award winning restaurants and cafes.
Tickets are €75 for one Cookbook evening and one Galway Walking Tour are available in house at Kai.

Kai CookBook Club
We are hosting our Cookbook club on Wednesday 23rd March.
This month it’s Prune.

The now almost famous Kai Cookbook club is set to return in 2015 with four incredibly gastronomic events taking place between January and April.
The Cookbook club is a place where the culinary team at Kai get a chance to showcase the cookbooks that inspire them, and the food at Kai.
For those of you who have been before each event will follow a familiar format, for the new cookbookers you’re in for a real treat.
Each night the team will prepare dishes inspired from one of the books using recipes that you can then replicate yourself at home, and hopefully impress your friends.
The evening will begin at 7pm with a welcome drink, and followed by a unique menu consisting of a selection of dishes each contained within the chosen book. Each cookbook club customer will also be given a copy of the recipes to help you identify the ingredients within each dish.

Heritage by Sean Brock
Heritage by Brock is all about dishes that are ingredient-driven. The recipes are a mixture of all the comfort food and high-end restaurant food for which Brock has become so well-known.

This is a book that gives it to you pretty straight, and prepares you for a practical world of homecooking.
Thug Kitchen offer a book of more than 100 recipes of best-loved meals, snacks, and sides. American and Mexican inspiration will throw out dishes like Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos, Pumpkin Chili, and Grilled Peach Salsa?
For the savvy home cook the book will also arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget.

Things are hotting up again this month for the Kai Cookbook Club. Last month we had a great night with Roberta’s cookbook intriguing and delighting a room full of curious diners. This month you can expect to be delighted once more, but with a totally different kind of fayre.
After last months flavorsome trip to NYC we’re stripping things back and staying very close to home. So close in fact that we are introducing you to a local cookbook written by local people(it’s all very Little Britain!) that we love.
‘The Chef and I’ is a homegrown cookbook from Sunday Times columnist Mona Wise and her husband Ron, the chef. The couple are great advocates of the local food scene, and last year took the opportunity to express their passion by compiling this book.
Ron is a seasoned chef, (pardon the pun), and was born in the States, while Mona is a pure bred Galwegian. This combination has naturally resulted in a fusion of cuisines, which cookbook clubbers will get to sample on the night.
On the night we’ll have Ron in the kitchen with Jess, while Mona will give a talk on what inspired her to write the book, and her passion for the food industry.
